Answers to questions regarding IRIS06 will be posted on this page.
If you have questions that are not addressed in this section, please email your complete question to the IRIS06 Liaison.
- Who can participate in IRIS06?
- Are organizations outside the U.S. allowed to participate in IRIS06?
- Can you please provide more information on the types of evaluation tests that will be conducted during the IRIS06 study?
- What kind of test infrastructure will be used for IRIS06?
- Will a list of IRIS06 participants be published?
A: IRIS06 is open to all providers of iris recognition products that are compliant with ISO/IEC 19794-6 Information technology – Biometric data interchange formats – Part 6: Iris image data and ANSI INCITS 358-2002 Information technology – Biometrics Application Programming Interface (BioAPI) Specification (Version 1.1).
A: Yes. Iris recognition product providers both inside and outside the U.S. are invited to participate.
A: IRIS06 will perform “Standards-Based Performance and User Cooperation Studies of Commercial Iris Recognition Products”. This includes evaluating the performance and interoperability of iris recognition products using the international iris image data interchange format standard (ISO/IEC 19794-6) and investigating the influence of test subject presentation parameters on the ability of iris recognition technology to acquire and recognize non-ideal iris images.
Performance evaluations will be conducted in accordance with the international standard for biometric performance testing and reporting (ISO/IEC 19795). Products will be evaluated in a standard indoor office environment with about 250 live human test participants over two visits separated by approximately two months. Both online (scenario) and offline (technology) analyses will be performed to determine native performance (enrollment and recognition performed with same product) and interoperability performance (enrollment and recognition performed with different products).
For user cooperation studies, iris images acquired at various positions, pose angles, and eye-gaze angles will be compared to images enrolled under ideal circumstances to predict the performance of iris recognition technology for uncooperative users.
A: A BioAPI 1.1 test harness will be used to interface with each product’s Biometric Service Provider (BSP).
A: No. The IRIS06 final report will be publicly disseminated free of charge, but product names will not be published. In the report; each product will be identified by a letter, such as Product A, Product B, etc. Participants may choose to publicly identify their product after the report is published.
