NIJ-TSA Iris RecognItion Study 2006 (IRIS06)

Authenti-Corp is honored to announce the NIJ-TSA Iris Recognition Study 2006, IRIS06, which will focus on "Standards-Based Performance and User Cooperation Studies of Commercial Iris Recognition Products".

The goals of IRIS06 are to:

  • Evaluate the performance and interoperability of iris recognition products using the international iris image data interchange format standard (ISO/IEC 19794-6) and the US Biometric Application Programming Interface standard (ANSI INCITS 358-2002, BioAPI 1.1), and

  • Investigate the influence of test subject presentation parameters, such as pose and eye-gaze angles, on the ability of iris recognition technology to acquire and recognize non-ideal iris images.

Important Dates

IRIS06 Participation Application due
25 March 2006
Last day to deliver Product to Authenti-Corp

IRIS06 will be conducted in compliance with ISO/IEC 19795, Biometric Performance Testing and Reporting, using a BioAPI 1.1 test harness to interface with each product. Products will be evaluated in a standard indoor office environment with about 250 live human test participants over two visits separated by approximately two months. The evaluation will be conducted in the January – August 2006 timeframe at Authenti-Corp’s test facility in Phoenix, Arizona.

The IRIS06 final report will be publicly disseminated free of charge. Product names will not be published in the final report; each product will be identified by a letter, such as Product A, Product B, etc. Following publication of the final report, participants may choose to publicly identify their product and may use the test results (with attribution) for their own purposes.

IRIS06 is open to all providers of iris recognition products that are compliant with ISO/IEC 19794-6 Information technology - Biometric data interchange formats - Part 6: Iris image data and ANSI INCITS 358-2002 Information technology – Biometrics Application Programming Interface (BioAPI) Specification (Version 1.1). Specific BioAPI 1.1 and ISO/IEC 19794-6 options and additional requirements for this evaluation are provided in the IRIS06 Participant Area.

There is no charge to participate in IRIS06. The study is funded by a grant co-sponsored by the US National Institute of Justice and the US Transportation Security Agency (Award Number 2005-IJ-CX-K066).

To participate, interested parties should send contact information (name, email, telephone) to IRIS06@authenti-corp.com to obtain the IRIS06 Participation Application.

Questions about the study should be directed to the IRIS06 Liaison. Answers to questions regarding the IRIS06 study will be posted on the IRIS06 Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) webpage.

Authenti-Corp gratefully acknowledges BioAPI support from the BioFoundry Division of OSS Nokalva for this study.
